It's important to keep your Meta Quest VR headset up to date with the latest firmware and system updates. If not kept up to date, this can negatively impact user experience
By default, when there is a new software release your Meta Quest is configured to automatically download and install the updates when connected to Wi-Fi and turned on. The following link provides a list of Meta Quest firmware release versions: https://www.meta.com/help/quest/articles/whats-new/release-notes/
If your Meta Quest device isn’t updating automatically, you can update it manually and also set to automatically update
- Press the ‘Meta” button on the right controller to open up the Universal Menu
- Hover over the clock on the left side of the Universal Menu to open Quick Settings
- In the Quick Settings menu, click on the Settings Menu (gear icon) in the upper right hand corner
- Once in the Settings menu, select “General” in the left sidebar menu, then “Software Update”
- If there’s an available update, click on Download Update.
- From here, you can check your current software version. If a new version is available, a button to download the update will appear.
- To enable future automatic updates for your Meta Quest, toggle the switch for “Automatic Updates”
If you prefer to manage your updates manually, you can disable the automatic updates feature via your settings. Additionally, even with automatic updates turned off, you retain the ability to manually check for any available updates within your headset settings.
To ensure automatic updates download correctly, make sure your device has enough power to remain charged during the update. Keep the headset turned on and make sure your headset is connected to Wi-Fi. Be advised this process can take time depending on the size of the update and the speed of your internet connection.
Note: Your Meta Quest 2 or Meta Quest will not update automatically while turned off or sleeping.
